Special Court for Sierra Leone The Special Court for Sierra Leone is not a United Nations body. It is an international organization in its own right created by an agreement between the United Nations and the Government of Sierra Leone. Staff members of the Special Court will not serve as staff members of the United Nations. Staff members of the United Nations System may serve on a loan arrangement to be concluded with the Special Court. External appointments are limited to the Special Court only. The incumbent provides secretarial and administrative assistance to Judges, including dictation, word processing, answering phones, maintaining filing systems, typing and preparing for signature, legal texts, decisions, rulings, and judgments. The incumbent also undertakes research of publications, issuances and reports of the Court, and collects and assembles such materials. Other primary responsibilities include producing drafts and final documents from handwritten, typewritten, voice recording and dictation sources. The ability to handle confidential documents, participate in confidential discussions and maintain the confidentiality of these matters is essential. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: At least ten years of administrative and secretarial experience. Secretarial skills of the highest level (shorthand, typing and computer); familiarity with legal problems and terminology; ability to communicate orally and in writing, organizational and administrative skills; ability to give direction to other members of the support staff. LANGUAGES: Fluency in English. Command of the English language in order to edit drafts prepared by supervisors (syntax, spelling, punctuation, etc.).
